This annual event celebrates the artistic legacy of groundbreaking sculptor William Edmondson, the first African American to receive a solo exhibit at New York's Museum of Modern Art in 1937. His renowned works are now held in major museums throughout America and command prices in excess of $700,00. He lived in his home in Edgehill at 1434 14th Avenue South, where he sculpted his artworks, up until his death in 1951.

Honoring the Edgehill Community

Edgehill neighborhood has a rich history, as one of the city’s oldest historically African-American neighborhoods. The Edgehill Heroes Arboretum honors these ancestors; many of whom, like William Edmondson, DeFord Bailey, and Moses McKissack, are nationally-renowned.

Honoring William Edmondson

Groundbreaking artist William Edmondson created his work at his home on the park site, carving his limestone figures under the shade of a barnlike studio shed, and displaying them in his yard. You can stand in the shade of the oak trees he planted, in the very spot where he created his work under “divine instruction”, and take in the sights, sounds, and scents of nature that inspired his work.

William Edmondson Arts & Culture Festival

The multi-acre site will be teeming with attendees; interacting with art and craft exhibitors, enjoying mainstage performances, and participating in family-friendly activities including kids' painting lessons, puppetry, and more!

You’re invited! Event is FREE but registration is highly recommended! Register for FREE today for a chance to win GIVEAWAYS from our partners, sponsors, and vendors - Urbaanite Nashville, Friends of William Edmondson Homesite and more! Register today!
